Week 10

The median of a data set is the data point in the middle of a set. The median is a good measure for finding the center values of a data set to find a decent "average" or a control group. It is also a useful point of reference for finding outliers.  The mode is the data point that occurs most frequently in a set. This is a good measure for seeing the frequency of certain responses in things like experiments or surveys.  The mean is the average of a data set. This is a good measure for finding a representative number for the general points of a data set, and also a good method of finding outliers. If the mean doesn't seem right, your set likely has an outlier.

A permutation concerns situations where order matters, whereas a combination  concerns situations where order does not matter.  I.E.: Families of maniraptorans in order of geological age involves permutations,  because the order in which they're presented matters.  Families of maniraptorans involves combinations, because the order in which they're presented does not matter.  (13 is mistakenly labeled as 12 in my work)

Week 5

Set theory and logic are similar in that they express practical, real-life situations and that they are applicable outside of a mathematical sphere, but also different in, obviously, that they express different concepts. Set theory deals with quantities and groups of elements, while logic deals with truths, falsehoods, etc.  Set theory would indicate:     D= (velociraptor, microraptor, deinonychus, dromaeosaurus) While logic would postulate:     D= Is a maniraptoran     V= Is a velociraptor
